City of Bremerton issued the following announcement on Aug. 14.

Reminder: Bremerton Small Businesses Can Apply for City Rental Relief Grants Beginning Tuesday, August 18.

Mayor Wheeler is providing a reminder that local small businesses are eligible to apply for the City of Bremerton’s new rental relief grant program beginning at noon on Tuesday, August 18.

Under the program, businesses can request reimbursement of up to $5,000 for commercial rent and lease expenses if they have been impacted by COVID-19. Applicants can find complete details and application instructions at: www.kitsapcaressmallbiz.com/bremerton.

We have many owners and operators in Bremerton that have been financially affected by the pandemic,” said Mayor Wheeler. “This is a challenging time in our community, and I encourage eligible small businesses to apply who need additional help with rental or lease expenses due to the coronavirus.”

Businesses can apply during two application phases. The first phase starts August 18 and the second application period opens at noon on Tuesday, August 25.

Mayor Wheeler pledged $250,000 in support of the program, called Bremerton Cares Small Business Rental Relief Grants. Funding is coming out of the federal CARES Act provided to the City in response to the coronavirus. The City Council approved use of the funds for the program earlier this month.

To be eligible, businesses must have 15 or fewer full-time employees, have a current Bremerton business license, and have experienced COVID-19 impacts while operating in city limits. Nonprofits and cooperatives are also permitted to apply if they meet eligibility requirements.
