Kurt Wagner Education Fund Awards Nearly $11,000 in Grants

Wednesday, November 23, was an exciting day for some South Kitsap teachers/teacher groups as they were surprised by the KWEF crew with checks for their grant requests. There were thirty-nine applications, all with worthy ideas, which made the decisions by the committee very difficult.

There were twenty-three grants funded this year encompassing thirteen different schools and nearly $11,000!

  • SKHS: Greg Pickard, Shannon Kelly, Wendy Wojtanowicz, Math Department.
  • Marcus Whitman: Emily Fogel/Kashi Tomicihi, Jessica Barnum, Math Department.
  • John Sedgwick: Vanessa Burgess, Math Department.
  • Cedar Heights: Courtney Kallstrom, Math Department.
  • South Colby: Nicole Watkins
  • Orchard Heights: Mark Leshley
  • Olalla: Sharma Gencarelle
  • Mullenix Ridge: Alycia Holt/Shannon Lund
  • Manchester: Lindsay Murphy
  • Hidden Creek: Angela Narus
  • Burley Glenwood: Jenny Brisbane, Dustine Kimmel
  • East Port Orchard: Michael Bray, Ellen Kisiday/Connie Nagel/Cassie Horne
  • Sidney Glen: Michelle Bellon, Lisa Jenkins.

The KWEF not only funds teacher grants, it provides South Kitsap HS, Discovery HS, and Explorer HS student scholarships, elementary arts/music program support, and high school athletic support. The KWEF has awarded over $110,000 in the last ten years.
