Incumbent Kitsap County Commissioner Charlotte Garrido went against Republican challenger Oran Root in the primary election earlier this month, Kitsap Sun reported.
Garrido, 74, is hoping to go for her fourth consecutive term for District 2. She garnered 30.8% of votes in the preliminary results earlier this month.
In the same race, Root, 48, brought in 31.81% of the votes for the election. He vowed during his campaign that he would “provide some desperately needed leadership for South Kitsap on our county commission,” according to Kitsap Sun.
Republican Marcus Carter landed in third place with 16.34% as his position as executive officer of Kitsap Rifle & Revolver Club had an ongoing legal contention against Kitsap County. The issue concerned noise complaints and speculation that a shooting range project wasn’t done with the right permit.
Either way, the first and second place contenders will battle it out in the Nov. 3 election.
