While Kitsap County is seeing increased cases of COVID-19, the county expects to see its first batch of vaccines by 2021.
The county has seen 2,529 confirmed cases of the virus, with approximately 50 new every day, Dr. Gib Morrow, county health officer, said, Bainbridge Island Review reported. But the county is expecting vaccines once Pfizer and Moderna receive authorization from the Food and Drug Administration.
“At this point, those vaccines are on the way, but we’re not there yet, and they’re not going to help right now,” Morrow told Bainbridge Island Review. “We need to be very careful and very mindful going into the holiday season. It’s a very crucial time … to do those things that we know do work.”
Morrow said in the report that the number of positive cases has quadrupled within the last six weeks, with hospitalizations also increasing.
Once the vaccines are approved, Morrow said the county needs to work out who will be eligible for the first round.
“When that vaccine is ready to go, we’ll be able to distribute it within this community,” Morrow told Bainbridge Island Review.
