City of Poulsbo issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.

Longtime Poulsbo City Council Member and Association of Washington Cities (AWC) President Ed Stern was nominated by the 281 cities organization to have his name submitted to the Governor’s Office for consideration of an appointment to the state’s Public Works Board. In December, Governor Inslee reviewed and affirmed the appointment.

“It is important to me that everyone serving in my administration always work to maintain the trust of those we serve,” remarked Governor Inslee, and further stated, “My goals are to grow Washington’s economy, strengthen our schools, and promote a culture of performance and efficiency in state government. Ed can help me achieve these goals and take personal responsibility for making sure the Public Works Board operates in a way that is transparent, responsive, and focused. These are the public’s expectations as well as my own.”

The state Public Works Board assists local governments in addressing infrastructure needs through a dedicated local funding pool of some $200 million, existing as a revolving loan program to be managed by a citizens board of 13 individuals comprised of elected city and county officials, and various utility district commissioners, as well as four individuals from the general public. Each bring unique skill sets to make the determinations for statewide awards. “I am deeply appreciative of Governor Inslee’s appointment allowing me the opportunity to make a difference,” Stern shared.

“Expanded public broadband access by whatever means - - direct fiber or mesh network or low-orbit satellite - - will continue to be a high priority of mine as it has been for the last 20 years.”
