What To Know About Bats And Rabies

Bats

As the weather warms up, we get more reports of people coming into contact with bats. Many of these reports involve children who find and touch bats. We take these reports very seriously, because bats can have rabies, a deadly viral disease.

Only a small percentage of bats have rabies, but it is still important to avoid direct contact with bats. Teach children to never touch bats and to tell an adult if they find a bat. Learn more at kitsappublichealth.org/bats or call us at 360-728-2235.

Bats play key roles in ecosystems around the globe. Learn more about bats in Washington state and how you can help reduce conflicts between people and bats: https://wdfw.wa.gov/species.../living/species-facts/bats
