The city’s presentation regarding a systemic approach to revising speed limits island-wide gained momentum.
Council directed city staff to begin a public awareness campaign for the proposed changes, come back with an ordinance for council consideration + a plan for implementation and enforcement, if adopted.
The new speed limit ordinance which would drop many areas from 35 to 30; 30 to 25; 25 to 20 and would correct the patchwork of varying speed limits along the same road or in the same areas.
In 2021, 334 traffic calming requests were made by residents, many with concerns for safety about multimodal transit use along the island’s roadways which have developed in recent decades.
