A portion of federal CARES Act funding will be used for the purchase of touchscreen Chromebooks for kindergartners, portable Wi-Fi hotspots and tutoring for the City of Bremerton and Kitsap County area students who are doing remote learning during the pandemic.
According to a Sept. 23 Kitsap Sun news article, the City of Bremerton use $250,000 of the CARES Act funds to purchase the technology for students learning from home and Kitsap County will use the funding for a tutoring program for children of its employees.
"These devices, as well as additional Wi-Fi hotspots, helps us fulfill our mission to expand equity across the district and will ensure we can continue providing the services families and students rely on during the school week,” Bremerton School District Superintendent Leavell said in a statement, told the Kitsap Sun.
The new technology for students includes 150 portable Wi-FI spots along with 450 Chromebooks with $50,000 of the funding going towards online tutoring, according to the Kitsap Sun.
