The Wilcox House, one of the most valuable properties on the Kitsap Peninsula, was sold in November for $2 million.
The house, designed by the University of Washington's professor and architect Lionel Pries, has been owned by many celebrities, Kitsap Sun reported in late-December.
Built in 1938, Julian and Constance Wilcox were the first owners. It was then that the original owners hosted famous guests, including John Wayne, Clark Gable and Ernest Hemingway.
"But for the past quarter-century, it was Phillip and Cecilia Hughes that kept up the red-tiled mansion, helping preserve it by operating a bed and breakfast made popular as word spread and travel guide writers flocked to check it out," Kitsap Sun reported.
Cecilia Hughes said when she bought the house in 1999, it was word of mouth.
"It was all word of mouth," Cecilia Hughes told Kitsap Sun of their 1988 purchase. "It just caught fire."
